I am having problems with :

Microsoft Runtime C++ 2015 affecting the launching of some of my (modern) games, also, my MS Excell wont run now, only just done a full re-install on a brand spanker SSD so i cant see how that is the issue. My Windows wont update atm, just hangs on the "checking for updates" window.

dont you have the option to launch programms or games in another windows mode?
As win7, Win8? I think you need to rightclick on the .exe file and then choose if you want to launch this in older windows versions.
