Post subject: EU to take action against the UK Government...
PostPosted: 14 Apr 2009 19:19
Hey guys

Back in the limelight again, our friends 'Phorm' - this time its really good news :)

The EU had looked into the complaints from our Campaign and Internet users that BT and Phorm had clearly violated Privacy Legislation.

The result is that the EU have now sanctioned formal proceedings to be taken against the UK Government for their (involvement) handling of the situation:

http://europa.eu/rapid/pressReleasesAct ... anguage=en

{l Quote}:
The Commission has opened an infringement proceeding against the United Kingdom after a series of complaints by UK internet users, and extensive communication of the Commission with UK authorities, about the use of a behavioural advertising technology known as ‘Phorm' by internet service providers. The proceeding addresses several problems with the UK's implementation of EU ePrivacy and personal data protection rules, under which EU countries must ensure, among other things, the confidentiality of communications by prohibiting interception and surveillance without the user's consent. These problems emerged during the Commission’s inquiry into the UK authorities’ action in response to complaints from internet users concerning Phorm.

Was this the thing that was going to allow your ISP to record everything you went on?

was a report on the bbc news site that amazon told phorm where to get off when it comes to redirecting adverts on its site.
amazon get a load of sponsorship from adverts and they are pretty upset that anyone accessing amazon via bt webwise/phorm wont get to see them. instead they show adverts targeted at what you view/search etc.
