£5 billion can be spent on far better things than ID cards. There may be pros and cons for this scheme, but right now is this what this country needs? No. I wont be spending £30 on one.

i dont have a prob with having to carry a id card but i do think you passport and driving licence , and medical details should be on it and it should be free to all...

but limited access to read it ie.

police can read your name address age and criminal record
hospitals can read your name address age and medical details
airports all of the above
shops name and age only

but this is only a idea
